The first big evening of the annual Sundown Salute will be June 29 at the Junction City Municipal Building.  The Sundown Salute Gala will kick off the annual Independence Day Celebration featuring a social hour and dinner followed by outstanding entertainment.  The evening starts at 7:00 pm, followed by dinner.  The program begins at 8:30 with”The Building of the Flag” presented by the Topeka Chapter 128 of the National Sojourners,  tracing the history of the United States of America for adoption of the Flag of the United States in 1777 to the present day.

The evening is topped off by the Wamego Dutch Mill Sweet Adelines, an international award winning chorus performing music from vaudeville to Broadway favorites.

The award-winning Wamego Dutch Mill Sweet Adelines is part of a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing, through education and performance, the musical art form of barbershop harmony. The Wamego chorus is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and last year captured second place at its first International Competition, the Harmony Classic in Greenville, S.C. The chorus finished third this year at the Regional Competition in April.

The chorus members are from more than 10 communities in six counties and is comprised of members of all ages and backgrounds. Jeanette Hupe, chorus director since 1981, was certified by Sweet Adelines International in 1998.

The chorus loves to perform at every opportunity with a mixture of colorful costumes, exciting choreography and vocal pizzazz.
